Artificial Intelligence: Rethinking human Intelligence

Did you ever wonder how our mind works? Our mind should be credited for its magnificent powers to literally control what you speak and what body parts you move in a matter of milliseconds. It manages to send a message to a specific body part almost instantly.

However, imagine if we could apply the power our brain had to the largest problems in the world. At first glance I thought that would impossible, but turns out because of a new powerful emerging technology making it possible and that emerging technology is Artificial Intelligence.

Now I would be wrong to simply explain artificial intelligence as one technology in general. Artificial Intelligence is broken into three different strands Machine Learning (ML), Reinforcement Learning (RL), and Deep Learning (DL).

What is Machine Learning?

Machine Learning works in the sense that the computer would use an algorithm and the given data to complete a given task by analysing data and finding pattern to make future predictions. Now believe or not machine learning is used in your life on a daily basis.

For example, your searches on google are all chosen based upon machine learning. With machine learning it can tell if you meant the java programing language not the java coffee bean when you search the word “java” purely based off your past searches on google and the application of machine learning.

What is Reinforcement Learning?

Now reinforcement learning is an even smaller branch within Machine Learning. It works in the sense that it will reward the machine for accomplishing a given goal. Thus, making a computer learn itself.

One of the most common examples of machine learning you may have used is in any online game you play. When you play a game like Fortnite, the computer bot uses Reinforcement learning to reward that computer bot for properly aiming at another player in the game.

Now just imagine what this could mean if this was applied in the real world. Imagine if we could reward cars to transport you from point A to point B or if we could reward a computer for diagnosing a disease correctly. The possibilities of reinforcement learning is exceptional and is possible to change almost every industry.

What is Deep Learning?

Deep Learning also ties into something called neural networks. Now neural networks basically replicate our brain. There’s an input layer, then a classifier, and finally an output layer. The input layer is the input you put in, then the classifier does the necessary algorithms to the input layer, to finally release it in the output layer.

For the people that are lost. This is a diagram of a neural network with X being the input and Y being the output.

To any algorithm, in the hidden layer or the classifier you can add a weight or a biase.

A weight would decrease the value given as the input and the biase which would increase the value given as an input. Weights and Biases are used so that the output can be as accurate as possible. With trial and error you can determine what weights and biases would provide the most accurate outputs.

Where can this be applied ?

We can all agree that artificial intelligence will impact every single industry in this world very soon. Already one of the industry’s its already impacting manufacturing and services automation almost everything, but it has a ton of other industry’s it will disrupt very soon.

Healthcare — Agriculture — Finance

In healthcare, there is already artificial intelligence applications which allow you to diagnose diseases such as Cancer really accurately. On top of that there are several AI-Robotic applications which would perform surgerys on humans more efficient than human doctors.

By using artificial intelligence, you can automate several repetitive practices in the process of growing crops. This would be an application which would need a lot more hardware based AI applications. Instead of using a software based AI application.

Already several applications use Machine Learning to predict the future value of stocks in a cheaper and more accurate method replacing the job of a stock speculator. Artificial Intelligence is just starting to enter the field of finance, but very soon Artificial Intelligence will be entering your finances.
